NORTHERN ARROWS: Hezbollah Leaders Eliminated

***Updated as of 3 Sep 25***

The July 2024 killing of Hezbollah military advisor Fuad Shakur in Beirut, precipitated the question of how Israel’s mostly defensive war against Hezbollah has thus far progressed since the October 7 Hamas attacks, and the commencement of a new phase in the war in which the Israelis began to efficiently, precisely, and lethally target Hezbollah leadership. By the time of the particularly intense September 20, 2024 bombardment, which preceded multiple further assassinations and the actual ground war, Hezbollah had acknowledged the deaths of 483 of its militant members. By the end of the month and the IDF incursion into Lebanon, Hezbollah had acknowledged 521 deaths. These were mostly in defensive strikes, wherein the IDF was responding to rocket attacks and attempted incursions. From late September onward, the IDF went purely on the offensive. After this point, Hezbollah refrained from announcing deaths. The most intense of the fighting lasted from late September and the IDF invasion of Oct 1 through to the ceasefire agreement reached on November 27, 2024. During this time, the IDF effectively dismantled the senior leadership of Hezbollah.

Hezbollah border forces have thus far killed numerous Israeli Defense Force soldiers, due primarily at first to rocket and drone fire, and then to actual ground combat upon the invasion. For IDF casualties please see Operation Swords of Iron, as these instances in northern Israel and southern Lebanon have been combined with casualties from the Gaza War for a simpler listing – https://chroniclesinzealotry.com/2024/02/29/swords-of-iron-idf-casualty-counts/.
